Jasmine BlueI recently interviewed business owner, Christopher Smith, about his new food venture, Bunshine Stuffed Buns. What are Bunshine Stuffed Buns? “Imagine a donut and an empanada got married and had a baby… you would have a stuffed bun!” according to the website, and I’d agree.
I purchased some Bunshine Stuffed Buns, which come in sweet and savory flavors, for my coworkers and myself, and we all loved them! You can enjoy flavors such as chicken Philly, taco, Buffalo Chicken, cinnamon, apple, Sweet Potato, and more. The final day to order some before Christmas is Monday, December 20. Deliveries will resume on Monday, December 27, which is also the last day to order before New Years.
- Why did you want to start Bunshine Stuffed Buns? What was your inspiration?
I originally got the idea for stuffed buns while watching a cooking show where the host made a similar item. I tried following the show’s recipe, but it did not turn out well. 😂 I thought with a few tweaks it could be really good, so kept working at it until I eventually got it right. It started as a fun project, then became something I thought was really special and wanted to share with others.
2. What are your favorite flavors right now?
I’ve worked really hard to make sure all the flavors are a memorable experience, but I would have to say Chicken Philly and Apple are my two favorites right now. You can never go wrong with Apple, and based on our sales so far, our customers seem to agree!😊
3. Do you have any plans to sell from farmers markets or other locations in the future?
We do plan to sell at markets and have pop ups in the future. That is the next step in our plan on the way to having a food truck and eventually brick and mortar location. With the overwhelming response to pre-orders, that might actually happen sooner rather than later. We are taking it one step at a time and making sure we can continue to build on our success.
4. How can people support your new business if they’re not in Nashville?
People who are not in Nashville can support us by following us and spreading the word about Bunshine to their friends in Nashville. Following us will also help our friends outside of Nashville stay in the loop as we expand to a city near them. It is also important to note here that we serve Nashville and surrounding areas. Ultimately, this business is the start of changing the trajectory of my family and building generational wealth. I want my little nieces, nephews, and future children to know that, with God, they can bring their passions to life and do whatever they choose to do.
As a Black man, it is also important to me to be a positive example for my community and encourage others to do the same. I have never started a business before, but I made this happen because I just kept taking the next step. To anyone who is on this journey, or thinking about going down this path, just take the first step and keep going. All you have is all you need.
