20-years of friendship, and a love for delicious food helped lead to Sister’s Cravings, a Black women-owned smoothie bar located at 208 Cherokee St., Kingsport, TN 37660.

Founded by Alicia and Esther in 2019, Sister’s Cravings is a great place to get healthy smoothies and bowls, even if you have a sweet tooth. It’s open from 7:00am-2:30pm Thursday and Friday, and 11am-3pm on Saturday.

The menu includes a variety of smoothies, including signature, green, and post-workout smoothies, smoothie bowls, with anything from chocolate chips to kiwi, and juices (one is called the “Cardi Beet”). My favorite part is how fun it is to create a bowl and choose fruit and toppings!

When my sister and I visited, we ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Bowl, which includes a Strawberry Banana Smoothie base, strawberry, granola, white chocolate chips, and honey. We also tried the First Love Smoothie Bowl, which includes a “First Love” smoothie base with a choice of 2 fruits and 3 toppings.

While the smoothies are special, the Sister’s Cravings team is even more special. We asked a few questions to learn more about their story and favorite menu items!

What is your story?

Alicia and Esther have been best friends for 20 years. During their friendship they realized that food was always a common interest. The two went out to eat frequently and created recipes regularly. Around 2014, they traveled to New York where they experienced their first juice bar. The two ladies felt like the Kingsport community deserved a fun, healthy dining experience that’s easily accessible. They worked two jobs a piece to save money for their dream, and in June 2019, Sister’s Cravings was born.

Why is it called Sister’s Cravings?

The name Sister’s Cravings was created because when the two cook, it’s usually a combination of all their cravings in one meal. The goal is to teach people balance so that they don’t get overwhelmed trying to complete diets. Have a turkey burger with a smoothie for lunch and a salad for dinner and call it a lifestyle.

What is your favorite recipe?

All of our recipes [are our favorite]. The best part is seeing a recipe start from nothing and become something wonderful!
