Just Eats features restaurants owned by people of color across Tennessee.

About Just Eats

Just Eats was founded in 2018 in response to the gentrification occurring across Nashville, TN. Throughout the US, gentrification disproportionately impacts people of color, and, specifically, in Nashville, it disproportionately impacts historically Black and African-American neighborhoods. (If you want to learn more about gentrification, check out these resources)

We want to make sure that businesses and restaurants owned by people of color across the state gain new customers and are not priced out. Although each of Tennessee’s major cities has its own set of affordable housing and gentrification concerns, Just Eats’ core mission–to highlight restaurants owned by people of color–remains the same. Just Eats is intentionally Black centered.

The Just Eats Team, all volunteers, feature restaurants in Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Tri-Cities on the Just Eats’ social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook) in order to share the stories of amazing restaurant owners across the state, and encourage our foodie followers to eat at the restaurants we feature.

Why Just Eats?

The balance scales in our logo, and the “just” in Just Eats allude to justice. Racial justice, food justice, and housing justice are just a few of the ways we want justice across our state. In between food posts, you might notice our Food Justice Friday series on social media, which highlights food justice and the ways it intersects with environmental justice, racial justice, policy, politics, and more.

Just eat with us.

After you learn about a restaurant, go support it! Use the hashtag #JustEatsTN or tag us so we can see how we’re just eating together.
